When the ‘traditional’ BW RDBMS has been replaced with HANA, you can gain ‘extra’ performance by introducing the In Memory DSO

The big difference between a traditional DSO and an In-Mem DSO is the optimization when activation newly loaded data. The traditional ‘change log’ no longer exists as a true database table. It has been replaced by a so called ‘calculation view’ which calculates the change log when requested (aka on-the-fly)

As round trips between the application server and the database server are no longer required, this new way of activating data reduces the activation runtime drastically as to be seen in the picture below
