Maslow’s hierarchy of needs is often portrayed in the shape of a pyramid with the largest, most fundamental levels of needs at the bottom and the need for self-actualization at the top. Maslow’s theory suggests that the most basic level of needs must be met before the individual will strongly desire (or focus motivation upon) the secondary or higher level needs.

The above picture is describing how Maslow’s 5 basic layers (Physiological needs, Safety needs, Love and belonging, Esteem and Self realization), captured in a pyramid which was created in 1943, are being ‘mapped’ to present day social media.

Personally I never knew I used LinkedIn for my safety needs 🙂
