Sybase Unwired Platform (SUP) is an enterprise mobile application platform, which allows developers to build applications that can be deployed to mobile devices. SUP offers heterogeneous back-end (SAP applications, data bases, etc) integration which is done by utilizing Mobile Business Objects (MBOs.)
MBOs encapsulate business process logic and data into a reusable unit, which takes away the complexity of integration with back-end data sources.
SUP also supports heterogeneous device support, which enables rapid development deployment of mobile applications to a wide variety of mobile devices (iPhone, Blackberry, Windows Mobile, etc.) Device heterogeneity in SUP is achieved through developing one core business logic, combined with specified development for the desired mobile device type. After having developed mobile applications via SUP, an Enterprise can centrally manage, deploy, and support those applications through Afaria.
Afaria is the mobile device management and security solution, through which IT can remotely configure connection settings. Additionally it also allows IT administrators to centrally distribute, install, maintain and support mobile applications, regardless of the device brand or whether it was an in-house or a public application. For data security Afaria enables IT to centrally enforce power-on password, encrypt data, and update signature files and antivirus engines. It also gives the functionality needed for reporting the devices’ usage, monitoring the status, and locating and locking lost devices to ensure that the company’s data have not been compromised.
